1. What is the most important issue in Council District 36 you would address if elected?

Central Brooklyn has the highest foreclosure rate in New York, at a level nearly three times the national average. To counteract the abusive sub-prime mortgage lending practices that created the financial crisis -- and to facilitate a more rapid economic recovery -- District 36 residents need fair access to financial products, services, and information that other neighborhoods can take for granted. Providing the resources and guidance to help families stay in their homes, and supporting organizations dedicated to that work, would be a top priority of mine.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

It is imperative that New York's education policy is committed to liberating Central Brooklyn families from the prison of failing schools imposed on us simply because of where we live. I will also work to make District 36 a model for the creation of new green-collar jobs, improve access to healthy and affordable food, and ensure that developers receiving public subsidies are required to reinvest in the communities where they work.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

No other candidate has my 24-year track record of building institutions that create economic empowerment, fight for social justice, and promote progressive public policies. At a time of crisis, I have the energy, ideas, and connections to deliver on the promise of bringing change and economic recovery to Central Brooklyn.
