Candidate Statement
I’m Latchmi Gopal, a Bronx native, and first-generation Guyanese-American. I am running for City Council because many of the systemic issues that my community endures are due directly to the lack of resources and budgetary investments. I support Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, Debt-Free College, and participatory budgeting. Too often predominantly Black, brown, immigrant, and working-class neighborhoods are overlooked in NY. As a city councilwoman, I will fight to provide affordable housing, guarantee quality healthcare to all, invest in public schools, empower workers, and tackle the climate crisis. This is what The Bronx deserves.
