Candidate Statement
Altagracia Soldevilla was born in the Dominican Republic in Comendador Elias Pina Province, where she attended her primary studies. Many times, she was discriminated against for not speaking the English language, so she decided to study at the Borough of Manhattan Community college (BMCC) where she entered in 1995 and graduating in Business Administration and earned a bachelor degree in Business Management at Mercy College. She managed to do all of this at the same time she was a single mother of four children, working as a work-study at the college and on weekends working in restaurants to pay her bills and taking care of her children many times having to take them to her classes.
