Hello Queens, I am Elizabeth Crowley, Democratic candidate for Queens borough president. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak to you directly about the serious challenges that we face during this trying time.

As a public-school mother of two, head of my household, and lifelong union member, I am dedicated to building a Queens that our children and future generations can be proud of.

I’m running for borough president because we need someone with the experience and ideas necessary to rebuild after COVID-19. I love Queens—I was born the 14th out of 15 and raised in Elmhurst—and like you, I have been personally touched and heartbroken by the public health crisis in our own backyard.

During my nine years in the New York City Council, I fought for Queens every day. As Chair of the Committee on Fire and Emergency Management, I took on the mayor when he wanted to close twenty fire companies—and I won every time. I also took on the former city council speaker when I felt our borough was being shortchanged in the city budget.

In 2017, I started 21 in ’21, an organization dedicated to electing more women to office. I also spearheaded the Friends of the QNS, an initiative to radically expand public transit. My ideas and record for standing up for working families are the reasons why I’ve been endorsed by the unions representing the public transit workers, firefighters, police officers, and EMTs. I am asking for your vote on June 23rd in the Democratic Primary. Please visit elizabethcrowley.com to get involved.

Stay safe and stay healthy. Thank you.

Candidate Statement

As a mother of two and head of her household, Elizabeth was the first Democrat and woman elected to her city council district.

After 9/11, Elizabeth worked around the clock with small businesses to help our city recover. On the City Council, she took the lead to get the city’s budget back on track after the Great Recession in 2008. As Chair of the Committee on Fire and Emergency Management, Elizabeth fought back against the mayor’s plan to close twenty fire companies—and she won.

After leaving the Council, Elizabeth founded 21 in ‘21, an organization dedicated to electing more women to New York City office. She also spearheaded the Friends of the QNS, which calls for the newest public transit line in the city, serving 6.6 million riders annually.

As borough president, Elizabeth will lead the effort to rebuild Queens after the COVID-19 crisis. She is endorsed by the public transit, firefighters, police officers, and EMT unions because they can count on her to stand up for the people who stand up for us.
