Occupational background: A Community Physician and teacher serving Central Brooklyn over 20 years, Dr. McKenzie knows that health is determined by the larger social forces of poor education, poverty and hopelessness. Dr. McKenzie empowers people with knowledge to care for themselves and make the right choices

Educational background: New York City Public Schools--which Dr. McKenzie is committed to preserve and improve--provided the academic foundation propelling him to degrees in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences and medicine

Organizational affiliations: Dr. McKenzie serves as Chairman of the health committees of the Brooklyn NAACP and the New York National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS. He is President of Provident Clinical Society and is Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY Downstate and he is founder of the Global Alliance Mentoring and Senior Citizen Twinning Program

Prior public experience: Dr. McKenzie has contributed over twenty years as a community organizer, mentor and educator. He provided education and assistance in financial literacy; criminal justice; immigration and business development. He conducted voter registration and immigration drives, developed low cost health care model for uninsured and organized home visits for shut-in senior citizens

1. What is the most important issue in Council District 45 you would address if elected?

Poverty will be his top priority. Dr. McKenzie believes a job should be available to anyone who is willing to work. That job should pay a living wage freeing the individual from the grips of poverty. Dr. McKenzie will provide opportunity for entrepreneurship and business development as part of a sustained fight against poverty.

 

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Dr. McKenzie believes in the power of education and has visionary ideas of how to capture the imagination of young people and create a culture of learning and personal development.

 

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

As a physician Dr. McKenzie is the only candidate who has dedicated his life to the service of humanity. No other candidate is entrusted to safeguard the lives of people. The call for change is everywhere but real change can only come from a candidate not molded by or tied to the old system. Dr. McKenzie is the only candidate who is truly independent and committed to doing the people's will.
