1. What is the most important issue in Council District 33 you would address if elected?

The need for affordable housing is the most significant issue in the 33rd Council District. Working and middle-income families are finding it increasingly difficult to remain in the neighborhoods they have helped to stabilize. In addition, senior citizens are facing a dire housing crisis. As Councilmember, I would fight for increased funding for affordable housing programs for working New Yorkers. I would work diligently to increase senior housing funding and create new senior housing programs. We must ensure that we strengthen our city by providing affordable housing for the people who make our city great.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

I am committed to creating new jobs for New Yorkers. I believe that we need to tap 21st century technologies to create new job sectors in New York City while providing good jobs for working families. In addition, I am dedicated to the success of early childhood education in our city. We need to fight for increased funding for these programs and expanded Universal Pre-Kindergarten in New York City. I am also very concerned with the environmental condition of our neighborhoods and am committed to the most effective and expeditious cleanup of environmental hazards, from the Newtown Creek to the Gowanus Canal.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

Throughout my life, I have worked on behalf of those who face difficult challenges and need someone to listen and lend a helping hand. As a community organizer and as Chief of Staff to an elected official, I have shown that I am able to build broad-based coalitions across diverse communities around common causes. In these capacities, I have developed a deep appreciation for the importance of public service and its potential to improve the quality of life of the residents of the 33rd Council District and the City of New York.
