Candidate Statement
Chivona Newsome is the CoFounder of Black Lives Matter Greater NY and knows that the Bronx is suffering because of the same old politics. We need a political revolution and we get one when we elect her.
There is a war on the poor in America and this is the poorest Congressional District. We suffer from air pollution which caused the highest asthma rates in the state. Our schools suffer and have a 40% dropout rate, and the Bronx leads the city in evictions.
She is fighting for every person 18 years or older to receive $1,000. She is an organizer of the Impeach Trump Movement, Climate Strike, sat on Presidents Obama's Inaugural Committee, LGBTQ activist, a civil rights leader, starred on BET's CopWatch America and is Christian.
