1. What is the most important issue in Council District 27 you would address if elected?

With one foreclosure for every 34 houses in District 27, residents are worried about their neighborhoods. In the City Council, I have cosponsored the first legislation addressing subprime predatory lending and foreclosures in NYC. My district has been hard-hit by this crisis and I have seen the impact on homeowners and renters alike. Once re-elected I will work to better provide protection, for both renters and homeowners, against fraud.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

As chairman of the Consumers Affairs Committee, I led public hearings on creating a greener NYC through reducing energy demand, enhancing energy efficiency and promoting clean, distributed energy in the City. Certain communities are overburdened with transit depots and congested traffic pathways. I would initiate policy initiatives that make our City a sustainable environment for future generations. Once re-elected, I will ensure that our City focuses on plans to alleviate pollution problems starting with the most vulnerable. In addittion, I would create legislation and tax incentives to encourage working-class homeowners to become eco-friendly.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

As Chairman of the Queens Council Delegation, I helped secure over $20 million in expense funding for Queens programs in the last four years. For my district every objective analysis shows I delivered the third largest expense budget of any Council member. As Deputy Majority Leader, Chairman Consumer Affairs Committee, Member of Council leadership, I am involved with legislation that has made a postive impact on City Government. My passion for service is reaffirmed each day, by the support of my constituents, colleagues and advocates. I have demonstrated leadership and proven that experience makes real change happen.
