1. What is the most important issue in Council District 2 you would address if elected?

Public safety impacts our schools, housing, and the overall quality of life for District residents. Throughout the City, crime is on the rise in our subways, in our streets and even in our schools. As a federal prosecutor, I led the fight against violent crime and terrorism and helped get guns and drugs off our streets and away from children. I helped bring justice to crime victims, hope to neighborhoods and a "second chance" to addicts and troubled youth. Throughout my career, I have fought for the weak, the poor, and the homeless, and will devote my term in office to protecting the safety and security of District 2 residents.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Our City’s future sits in our classrooms, and I will work to provide students with a better and safer place to learn. We must have "zero tolerance" for violence and harassment in school, so that children can focus on studying rather than surviving, and we must improve programs and services for troubled and disabled youth.

Housing is also of great concern. New York is truly the greatest city on Earth, but it should not be enjoyed by only the super-rich. Once home to a thriving artistic and creative community, our District has seen its residents move away, having been "priced out" of the housing market. We must preserve and expand existing affordable housing, and increase the housing stock for middle and working-class families.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I am a proven advocate who can bring people together to get the job done. As a United States Attorney for nearly five years, I helped bring the FBI and NYPD together to change lives and turn neighborhoods around. I fought for New Yorkers against violent crime, narcotics trafficking, corporate corruption, and terrorism. As your Councilmember, I will bring my energy and skills to our neighborhoods, and together we can fight for quality schools, better health care, affordable housing, and safer streets.

A lifelong New Yorker and son of Greek immigrants, I have called District 2 home since 1994 and live near Union Square with my wife, Cheyne.
