Prior Public Experience: I served 11 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens County. I was first elected to public office in 1996 and spent 6 years as a State Senator. I then went on to be elected to the City Council in 2003.

1. What is the most important issue in Council District 43 you would address if elected?

I have always been a persistent advocate for children and working families, the labor movement, senior citizens, small businesses, and law endorsement. The quality of life of the resident in our community is my top priority.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

I am fighting to make sure that residents are safeguarded against overzealous ticketing agents who want to close the City's budget gap on the backs of taxpayers instead of making them partners in keeping our streets safe. I have also been a champion for our small businesses, advocating for reducing ticketing and authoring several laws aimed at providing a friendlier business climate allowing our small businesses every chance to succeed. Keeping our firehouses and libraries open, while also securing millions of dollars to improve our parks and our schools will continue to be a priority of mine. As one of the most senior members of the new City Council, my ability to deliver for my district will be further enhanced.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I am extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish thus far and I will have even greater influence in the Council due to my more senior status. I believe my record of accomplishment at the New York City Council to preserve, protect, and enhance our area has greatly benefited the resident of my district. It would be an honor to continue to serve.
