Candidate Services Intern

Department: Candidate Services
Job Status: Internship

The Candidate Services Unit (CSU) of the CFB seeks an ambitious undergraduate student to assist staff in providing guidance on campaign finance rules and regulations to candidates running for municipal office. The intern will be supervised and receive training and guidance on the City’s Campaign Finance Program. The intern will assist with day-to-day operations of CSU and may work on a variety of projects. This is a full-time summer internship that will run for ten weeks. The expected start date is June 5th (flexible).

Responsibilities:

  • Update campaign training and reference materials
  • Help register candidates and campaign staff for trainings
  • Perform research and analysis of campaign finance data and information as needed

Qualifications:

Applicants must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be detail-oriented. Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies. Must be comfortable working in a team environment and contribute fresh and innovative ideas for helping campaigns understand their campaign finance recordkeeping and disclosure requirements.

Associate Publications Coordinator

Department: Communications
Job Status: Full-Time

(Full Time Seasonal - 18 months)

The NYC Campaign Finance Board (CFB), a nonpartisan, independent city agency that enhances the role of New York City residents in elections, seeks an Associate Production Coordinator to join our Communications Unit.

The ideal candidate will take pride in ensuring the quality of our communications, has a positive, can-do attitude, and is excited for the opportunity to work on high-profile voter education and engagement projects, particularly the official NYC Voter Guide.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with production workflow and project tracking.
  • Coordinate publication requests with staff, partners, and/or vendors.
  • Collaborate with editorial, design, and web teams to facilitate final products.
  • Serve on Voter Guide project team: assist in submission processing, quality assurance, advertisements, and bulk distribution.
  • Contribute ideas for improving content.

Graphic Designer (Full Time Seasonal - 18 months)

Job Status: Full-Time

$45,000–$60,000

The CFB seeks a talented graphic designer with good design aesthetics and strong typography skills. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, self-motivated, and conceptual thinker, with a good eye for detail. The graphic designer will collaborate with the Art Director in creating intelligent and visually compelling material consistent with the identity of the agency. Responsibilities:

  • Designs and formats flyers, reports, brochures, handbooks.
  • Develops and creates data visualations for print and web.
  • Color corrects and crops photos for print and web.
  • Creates and updates PDF fill-in forms.
  • Assists in proofing, printing, and production of projects.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, primarily InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications:

Network Engineer

Department: System Administration
Job Status: Full-Time

Salary Range:  $100 to 120K

The NYC Campaign Finance Board (CFB), a nonpartisan, independent city agency that enhances the role of New York City residents in elections, seeks a Network Engineer.  The CFB’s network supports approximately 100 users and 20 general use computers with approximately 50 servers that are predominantly virtual.  The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, reliability, integrity, security and efficient operation of the CFB’s network including internet connectivity.  The Network Engineer will set up, monitor, maintain, support and optimize all aspects of the CFB network.  The Network Engineer will report directly to the Director of Systems Administration.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning 

  • Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to develop, implement and maintain the CFB’s Network and IT Infrastructure Plan.
  • Prepare and implement a plan to migrate to the cloud.
  • Assess and regularly report on near-term and long-term network capacity needs. 
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes and service records.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network administration, usage and disaster recovery.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
  • Oversee hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.

Operational Management

  • Manage and develop the two member Network Support team; setting standards and goals for staff to ensure projects and tasks support the agency’s overall priorities.
  • Maintain and manage the agency’s network, build and maintain servers, install and maintain network operating systems, and configure switches, routers and firewalls.
  • Support software packages and ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Provide expert infrastructure setup, configuration and support to the Software Development team in the deployment of agency developed web and internal network applications including setting up DNS and secure connectivity.
  • Collaborate closely with the Software Development team to quickly resolve issues and take proactive steps to ensure an absolute minimum of unscheduled downtime of CFB developed applications.      
  • Network administration including backup, security management, user account management, e-mail, internet access, configure and manage storage, office systems and applications support, and ensure all systems maintain high availability.
  • Monitor and test network performance, ensure all systems are running at top performance, troubleshoot problem areas as needed and provide performance statistics and reports as requested.
  • Ensure that internet connectivity is reliable, secure and meets performance expectations.
  • Ensure all computer hardware is working at full capacity.
  • Manage the agency’s helpdesk and resolve complex network and desktop issues.
  • Set-up, test and maintain up-to-date the technology component of the agency’s DR/BC plan
  • Practice network asset management, including oversight of the computer equipment inventory.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices. 
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the agency’s audio video systems.

 

Essential Skills:

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience and success with the following: 
    • Windows Server and Active Directory domain, Microsoft Exchange Server, CISCO switches, routers and ASA firewalls, 
    • IIS configuration management and administration, 
    • Web site administration,
    • DNS management,  
    • Security certificate management, 
    • EMC or Similar SAN with fiber switches, 
    • Windows Server OS on HP Servers running VMware virtual environment, 
    • Unitrends Enterprise Backup & Continuity Software or similar enterprise level back-up, DR/BC solution,
    • Configuring and using DNS, DHCP, VLAN, and VPN, 
    • IP,
    • Windows PC operating system,
    • Microsoft Office software suite, 
    • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration,
    • Spam filters,  
    • Symantec Ghost or similar disk imaging solution,
    • Symantec Endpoint or similar enterprise endpoint security solution,
    • Experience designing/implementing/managing cloud based solutions is a plus,

.NET Developer (Seasonal - 18 months)

Department: System Administration
Job Status: Full-Time

$90,000–$95,000

The CFB seeks an experienced full stack .NET Web Developer. Under general supervision, with broad scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, this developer is responsible for the system analysis, technical design, development, testing, enhancement, and maintenance of various applications that support the Agency’s business functions. The selected candidate will be required to perform tasks related to the development of software applications, Umbraco CMS, and data transformation activities for the Agency.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for full software development life cycle, including user interface design, database development, back-end architecture, deployment and maintenance of the defined solution based on business and functional requirements.
  • Design, write, unit test, and document application code to successfully deliver secure, robust, transactional and service oriented architectures.
  • Understand the Agency’s strategic initiatives and develop technology solutions that deliver the required business value.
  • Understand complex business processes/applications with intent to re-write/enhance using current tools/technology.
  • Provide supporting documentation for all phases of development/implementation.
  • Develop technical specifications, including data flow diagrams.
  • Maintain data security and internal controls of environment to adequately protect Agency assets and records.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong demonstrable experience in systems architecture and N-tier application development using Microsoft’s web technology stack (ASP.NET MVC, C#, IIS6/7/8, ADO.NET, Entity Framework, SOAP/REST Web Services including Web API and WCF, Http Handlers, Http Modules).
  • Strong experience implementing standards based front-end development (HTML5, XHTML, JavaScript, CSS).
  • Experience with scripting languages including JavaScript (intermediate to advanced level) jQuery and data exchange formats (XML, JSON, SOAP) in a service oriented or micro services architecture.
  • Experience with Responsive Web Design (RWD) patterns.
  • Ability to build/create/maintain application databases utilizing MS SQL Server (2008 and above), including SSIS, TSQL, stored procedures, functions & performance tuning.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, recognize and react to changing business needs and effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and in conjunction with team members and business units. Enthusiasm and flexibility to work on a variety of projects are necessary, as well as the ability to rapidly acquire new domain familiarity.

  • 3-4 years of web application development including JavaScript, XML, AJAX.

Youth Voter Coordinator

Department: Voter Assistance
Job Status: Full-Time

$45,000 - $55,000

The Campaign Finance Board (CFB), a nonpartisan, independent city agency that enhances the role of New Yorkers in elections, seeks a Youth Voter Coordinator to lead and conduct outreach activities directed at New York City youth.

Through its NYC Votes campaign, the CFB promotes voter registration, voting, and civic engagement, by engaging in community outreach and partnerships with public and private organizations. With the assistance of the Voter Assistance Advisory Committee (VAAC), the CFB coordinates voter events, distributes voter education materials, and helps NYC residents register to vote.

The ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of programming and services, and has previous experience working with and inspiring young people.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate CFB-sponsored youth programming, including but not limited to the Youth Poet Laureate Program, candidate forums on youth issues, Student Voter Registration Day
  • Conduct workshops aimed at motivating young adults to get engaged in the city’s civic life and vote; coordinate follow-up with students and educators
  • Provide resources to relevant city agencies, including Administration for Children’s Services and Department of Youth and Community Development
  • Participate in community events and create opportunities to conduct voter registration
  • Represent CFB and NYC Votes at youth-focused public events
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to incorporate youth voice in appropriate programming
  • Coordinate and complete administrative reports relating to youth programming

Production Manager

Department: Voter Assistance
Job Status: Full-Time

Seasonal – 8 months (ending November 30, 2017) – Part-time until July 1, 2017, Full-time July 1, 2017 through November 30, 2017

$27–30 per hour

The Campaign Finance Board (CFB), a nonpartisan, independent city agency that enhances the role of New Yorkers in elections, seeks a Production Manager to produce the Video Voter Guide.  The position will be part-time from April - June and increase in hours in the new fiscal year.

The Production Manager of the 2017 Video Voter Guide (VVG) is responsible for the creation of a television, online, and mobile optimized show that features participating candidates running for Mayor, Public Advocate, Comptroller and City Council races. The position will work within the Voter Assistance Unit and liaise closely with other Unit Heads of Campaign Finance Board (CFB) Departments and media partners to ensure that production runs on schedule, meets deadlines, and stays within the rules and regulations of the VVG.

They will oversee all aspects of producing and delivering the Final VVG to the CFB on time for all distribution outlets including online, social media, print and video.  They will closely monitor studio and candidate schedules throughout the VVG shoot, preparing daily report sheets detailing all aspects of each day's shoot including managing any additional CFB production staff.

This position reports to Director of Voter Assistance.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing model of 2017 VVG
  • Negotiate contract with production company
  • Generate internal production calendar
  • Chief Liaise between CFB, media, and other major partners
  • Interface with CFB on candidate status
  • Manage internal creatives to ensure project is delivered on schedule and on budget
  • Track overall live action shoot and meet weekly with CFB team to review details and progress
  • Supervise and manage team members
  • Conduct weekly meetings with updated reports
  • Produce content to help with promotion; PSA
  • Attend internal meetings of the Voter Guide Submission Application (VGSA)
  • Create progress reports for the Voter Assistance Unit

Voter Assistance Intern

Department: Voter Assistance
Job Status: Internship

The Voter Assistance Unit of the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) is seeking an ambitious undergraduate student to work closely with CFB staff to execute plans for a citywide voter education and awareness campaign that includes voter registration drives.

Interns will be supervised by the Voter Assistance Liaison.  Responsibilities will include planning and conducting voter registration drives, updating data files, outreach to the community and NYC agencies, and assist with on-going voter projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate voter registration events in the community
  • Data entry in project spreadsheets and database
  • Researching voter awareness opportunities
  • Drafting reports and other materials for community partners
  • Promote NYC Votes in Events
  • Assisting with voter engagement and advocacy programs
  • Assisting with logistics for events
  • Supporting the team with daily tasks such as writing reports, data entry, researching partners, etc.
