City Councilman Michael C. Nelson combines a lifelong dedication to public service and education with a uniquely hands-on knowledge of the needs of his community. Councilman Nelson was recently honored by the Brooklyn Tenants Council for his advocacy efforts on behalf of tenants.

Michael Nelson serves on the Council Committees on Aging, Housing and Buildings, Education, and Transportation. His legislative agenda is an attempt to make Brooklyn a better place in which to live, work and raise a family. Quality of life issues and strengthening our education system are his top priorities.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mike Nelson was honored by the Jewish War Veterans of America and received the Schiller Memorial Award for Americanism and Patriotism. He was also recognized as Educator of the Year by the United Federation of Teachers, Community School District 21 Chapter, and has been honored by Boys Town Jerusalem and the Brighton Neighborhood Association.

Michael Nelson is a member of the American Legion, Kiwanis, B’nai B’rith, Vietnam Veterans of America, Knights of Pythias, Friends of Hospice, Jewish War Veterans, and the Holocaust Memorial Committee.

Prior to being Chief of Staff for Senator Carl Kruger, Mr. Nelson worked as Director of Community Relations for Congressman (now U.S. Senator) Charles Schumer.
