1. What is the most important issue in Council District 28 you would address if elected?

Quality education for children in District 28 is most important. Resources are needed for schools to develop strategies to address the needs of all children, including children with special needs and autism. I will support funding for early childhood development and afterschool programs. I will fund enrichment programs, tutoring and extended day programs. Our schools need new technologies with teacher training and industry partnerships, so that graduates can secure jobs.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Economic development, job creation, job training as well as initiatives for women and minority business owners are vital. Small business owners need reductions in taxes and loan assistance. Too many homeowners are facing foreclosures. Business owners and home owners are burdened with heavy taxes and unreasonable fines for minor violations. Additionally, we need to get guns off the street. I will support measures that will do that. I will work to create educational, vocational and recreational programs for our youth, just like I did when I founded the Rochdale Village Youth Council--an organization that gives youth alternatives to help them stay out of trouble.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I have lived in this district for 31 years and served on the board of Rochdale Village for over 15 years. My 20 years as a public defender, fighting for the Constitutional Rights of Queens Residents, has prepared me for City Hall. I will deliver funding that will provide jobs, job training, foreclosure assistance, youth and senior programs, and help to keep our streets safe. Our children will get the resources they need for the best education possible and children with special needs will get services right here in their own neighborhood. I have the education, experience and most importantly, the integrity to serve my community and bring transparency back to city government.
