1. What is the most important issue in Council District 06 you would address if elected?
NYC has become unaffordable for many middle class families and seniors; on the Upper West Side, this is largely due to losing tens of thousands of regulated housing units, and to limited space in our best public schools.
I will continue to work to preserve and expand affordable housing by strengthening rent regulations, including affordable units in new developments, and creating new permanent affordable housing -- including affordable rentals, subsidized condos and limited-equity co-ops. I will continue to work to strengthen our public schools and to reform the Dept of Education.
2. What other important issues would you address if elected?
Strengthening the NYC economy; creating good jobs with living wages; fighting for our fair share of education funding; combatting domestic violence; improving mass transit; protecting our quality of life; electoral and governmental reform.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?
Drawing upon my experience inside and outside government as a grass-roots organizer, reformer, coalition-builder and attorney-activist, I will be the most effective in advancing the progressive agenda.
