| Lew Fidler has spent
most of his life volunteering on behalf of our community.
He has been a Community Board Chairperson, Vice-President
of the local development corporation, a founding
member of a neighborhood housing program, and counsel
to our local police precinct council and public
housing tenants.
Wherever Lew Fidler has served, he’s gotten results.
As Board Chairperson, Lew’s proposal that permitted
a quick police response to quality of life problems—“small”
problems like late-night loud parties—was
instituted on a City-wide basis. Lew got funding
for the neighborhood’s first publicly funded day
care program, and opened its first multi-cultural
senior citizen program. Lew Fidler also got the
funding to renovate the historic Wyckoff House
and park on Ralph Avenue and Clarendon Road.
As a District Leader, Lew Fidler led the successful
fight to restore weekly recycling pickups. Lew
played a major role in defeating the plans of
big money developers to build a huge shopping
center near Flatlands Avenue, a plan that would
have destroyed small businesses in Georgetown,
Futurama, Mill Basin and Canarsie.
Lew Fidler’s hard work has gotten the Brooklyn
D.A.’s office to start new anti-gang initiatives
in Canarsie, and the largest ever undercover drug
buy and bust operation into the local public housing
development.
It’s this track record of hard work, independence
and achievement that has earned Lew Fidler the
support of literally every civic association President
in this district, in addition to dozens of other
community and religious leaders and every elected
official in the area.
After term limits, the next Councilman will have
to be effective. Lew Fidler has a record of achievement
that proves that he can get results.
