Candidate Statement

I’ve worked as a full-time Assembly Member for 20 years, proudly representing a southern Brooklyn district that is home to a large immigrant community and one of the state’s largest senior populations. As Chair of the Assembly Housing Committee, I fight for affordable/supportive housing, played a key role in the passage of the strongest tenant protection law in NYS and helped expand the rent freeze program and property tax exemptions for seniors and people with disabilities. I helped secure hundreds of millions of dollars for NYCHA and wrote the law that created the COVID Rent Relief Program to help renters and homeowners. My office is a one-stop help center that solves individual and community-wide problems.
