2029 Citywide Elections
All candidates registered for city office must file disclosure statements with the Campaign Finance Board (CFB). A disclosure statement is a report prepared and submitted using C-SMART (the CFB’s financial disclosure application) to disclose your campaign’s financial activity. This activity is reviewed by CFB staff as part of pre- and post-election audit processes. Financial activity submitted in a disclosure statement is also made available to the public in the Follow the Money database and in the Campaign Finance Summary.
Who Must File?
Campaigns must register before conducting any financial activity or within 10 business days of filing a petition or a certificate of nomination or substitution to get on the ballot, whichever is earlier. Once registered, campaigns must submit disclosure statements for every filing period, even if there was no financial activity for the disclosure period.
What’s Included in a Disclosure Statement Filing?
Campaigns must report all financial activity that occurred within the disclosure period, such as contributions and expenditures.
If contributions are not disclosed for the period in which they were received, they will not be eligible for public matching funds. For example, a contribution received on March 15, 2027 must be reported with Disclosure Statement #3, because the contribution was received within the disclosure period for that statement.
Consequences for Late and Missing Filing Deadlines
- Late and missing filings are subject to financial penalties according to the CFB’s Penalty Guidelines.
- Candidates who file a disclosure statement late will not receive public funds based on financial activity in that statement until the following scheduled payment date, if otherwise eligible.
- Expect to receive a letter via the CFB Portal if you file late or do not file.
Note: Dates and deadlines are subject to change due to changes in the law, election schedules, Board Rules, or other circumstances. If changes do occur, updates will be posted on the CFB website and communicated to registered candidates via the CFB Portal and/or email.
