1. What is the most important issue in Council District 9 you would address if elected?

The retention of middle income families in the district is absolutely essential as they are the generators that preserve the institutional base of the community. The first step to retain this base is to encourage lending institutions to create a Moderate Income Mortgage Program which would include the Community Reinvestment Act which requires lending institutions to set aside funds to invest in low and moderate income community.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

To meet the educational needs of the children in the 9th District requires an immediate reduction in class room sizes. The City and State must operate in good faith to find the funds the courts mandated be paid for in the Campaign Fiscal Equity lawsuit. With an unemployment rate of more than 51% of African Americans living in the 9th District, the need for jobs and job development is essential. Disparity in health care in the District and in other parts of this city has created a lack of informed citizenry which in turn prevent medical examinations, treatment and follow up at health care facilities.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

As a resident of the 9th District and the only candidate with over 25 years of experience as a public servant in city government with the last 12 years working in the political arena as well as working with community based organizations the clergy and the residents of the District, I believe I am prepared and ready to represent the District at the City Council. As the former Director of the Northern Manhattan Office of the Manhattan Borough President and Chief of Staff to former Council member C. Virginia Fields, I understand how City government works and know how to make it accessible and responsive to the needs of the residents of the 9th Council District.
