VOTER ASSISTANCE COMMISSION

The Voter Assistance Commission (VAC) is a nonpartisan government agency created to encourage more New Yorkers to register and to vote. VAC identifies historically underrepresented groups and works with other public agencies, private groups, and community-based organizations to encourage registration and voting. VAC holds an annual public hearing after the general election to learn about experiences with voting in New York City and to make recommendations for improvements. VAC also holds public meetings prior to the general election to discuss other voting issues. This year, VAC is coordinating a video voter guide with NYC-TV. To find out more information about the video voter guide, visit www.nyc.gov/videovoterguide or call VAC at (212) 788-8384.

To find out when the annual public hearing will be held or to get more information, call or visit VAC’s website at www.nyc.gov/voter. You can also write to the Voter Assistance Commission at 100 Gold Street, 2nd floor, New York, NY 10038.

In addition to its toll-free voter hotline, 866-VOTE-NYC, the Board of Elections (BOE) produces a website, www.vote.nyc.ny.us, with many features of interest to voters, including election calendars, downloadable forms, and information about past election results.

NEW YORK STATE UNIFIED COURT SYSTEM

The New York State Unified Court System publishes an online voter guide for the public with nonpartisan information about candidates for New York State Supreme Court. Increasing access to information about judicial candidates was one of the key recommendations of the Commission to Promote Public Confidence in Judicial Elections. Access the 2005 New York State Supreme Court Voter Guide.
