1. What is the most important issue in Council District 22 you would address if elected?

While there are many issues that face Astoria and New York City, a priority should be addressing schools and education. Our children deserve full choice of opportunity of educational options that are accountable and responsive to parents. Parents should choose local control with teachers and a principal’s administration. A third of your tax dollars goes towards the school system. Parents and neighbors should be able to use a third of their tax payment as credit to the school or tuition program of their choice. This would help determine where are the best qualified teachers, raise salaries, improve school resources, and improve student achievement and responsible citizenship.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

Queens residents count on community policing to keep our streets safe and free. COMPSTAT has had a great effect in lowering the number of violent crimes. Our city govt. should focus resources on violent criminal offenses. This focus would increase safety, and reduce the cost of misdirected prison and correctional funds.

The recent tax, fare, and 18.5% property hikes are a burden on the hard working residents of Astoria. At the same time, the city has increased debt and overspending. To help make our communities more livable, we need to have a budget that lets you and our neighbors keep more of your paychecks. You can then use your economic choice to give to charities, to improve the life of your loved ones and neighbors, and to support your local small business owners.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

This is a question for the voters of Astoria.

I would be proud to serve, if elected, with John Clifton as Borough President, Ron Moore as Comptroller, and the offices of the Mayor and Council Speaker. All elected officials should care deeply about Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. This is our common heritage, whether a long time citizen or a recent immigrant coming to America for the land of opportunity.

If the voters want a candidate who is independent, responsive, who would defend your liberty and freedoms on civil and economic matters, then I count on your vote and faith as the best candidate for this office.
