1. What is the most important issue in Council District 17 you would address if elected?

I will continue to ensure that more affordable housing is brought to Council District 17. Currently, the District has a disproportionate number of homeless shelters and similar type programs and not enough affordable permanent housing for those who have lived and worked in our community when it was not safe or popular to live here. I will work to ensure that new developments give our community residents the opportunity to purchase condominium or cooperative apartments. By doing so, we can stabilize our community and change the label of being one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

I will continue to address the need for major repairs and bring technological equipment to our schools, ensure that our schools receive adequate funding and resources to provide a good learning environment for our children and that our school system offers the competitive salaries and incentives necessary to attract and retain qualified teacher.

I will continue to improve the environmental condition of our community by preventing additionally waste transfer stations from opening in the district and work with environmental groups and advocates to bring new technologies for handling waste and ultimately reduce the truck traffic that seriously impacts the quality of life in our community.

There is a serious problem of unemployment in the community and a tremendous amount of new economic development planned for our community. I will continue to ensure that the residents of our community receive the necessary training and are given priority for the jobs created by the new development in the area.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I have worked and lived in the community I currently represent for over 40 years and as a result, I have developed a strong understanding of the issues affecting our community, and have gained invaluable experience regarding problem solving, working in a team and negotiations. With my experience, I can be effective in addressing the issues we confront as a community.
