1. What is the most important issue in Manhattan you would address if elected?

Partisan politics. As a practicing physician, each day I witness first-hand the negative impact of partisanship on people’s health and on the health care available to them. Public policy decisions related to health care, including prevention and treatment, are often determined by special interests. Partisan political machines are among these special interests. Partisanship has the same negative impact on decisions affecting public education, affordable housing, public transportation, and every other issue that concerns the people of Manhattan. I would use the office of borough president to expose – and help put an end to – this form of political corruption.

2. What other important issues would you address if elected?

There are nearly a quarter of a million independent voters in Manhattan and they are relegated to second-class status. I would use the office of borough president to champion the rights of independents and disaffected Democrats and Republicans – and to fight for political reforms that give greater power to the people instead of the clubhouses.

3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?

I’m not a political "insider." Political insiders promote their own interests to the detriment of the rest of us: the outsiders. My campaign gives a voice to the outsiders – ordinary people in every community who want real changes in the policymaking process. With an independent mayor – Michael Bloomberg – and an independent movement of outsiders, New Yorkers can move beyond clubhouse politics. One name of that movement is "Bloomberg and Fields on C." That means voting for us on "Column C" for your independence.
