Submit a “Pro” or “Con” Statement for the 2010 Charter Revision Voter Guide

Have you been following the activities of the New York City Charter Revision Commission (CRC)? Would you like to tell New York City voters what you think about the CRC’s proposals by writing a “pro” or “con” statement for the official New York City Voter Guide?

The nonpartisan, plain-language Voter Guide produced by the Campaign Finance Board (CFB) will include in-depth information about the questions that will appear on the ballot this November. The Guide is mailed to all households in New York City with a registered voter and published online on this website.

The CRC has adopted two ballot questions for voters to consider this November. The deadline for submissions to the printed Voter Guide has passed. The CFB, however, has extended the deadline for inclusion in the online Voter Guide until Tuesday, September 14th, at 5:00 p.m. Any submission under this extension will appear online ONLY.

REQUIREMENTS

Read the two ballot questions on the CRC’s website and draft your statement(s). To be included in the Guide, your
statement(s) must:

  • Address only one ballot question (you may submit separately on each question).
  • Clearly advocate a “yes” or “no” vote on that question as a whole. (However, you do not
need to address every topic in the ballot question.)
  • Identify the author’s name and the author’s organization, if any.
  • Be 200 words or less (the CFB may edit or cut statements that exceed this length).
  • Be delivered to the CFB by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010.
    • Email your statement to VoterGuideInfo@nyccfb.info (preferred).
    • Fax it to the CFB, attention Katharine Loving, at (212) 306-7143.
    • Hand deliver it to the CFB office: 40 Rector St, 7th Floor, NY NY 10006.
  • No late submissions will be accepted.

The CFB will publish in their entirety “pro” and “con” statements meeting the above requirements in the online edition of the Voter Guide, subject to Board Rules.

The CFB reserves the right not to publish any statement that is obscene, libelous, or defamatory, or is not clearly for or against one of the ballot proposals.
