THE OFFICE OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBER
The City Council is the legislative, or law-making, branch of New York City’s government. The City Council is responsible for passing local laws, making decisions about land use, overseeing city agencies, and approving the city’s budget. Each Council member represents one of the 51 New York City Council districts.
The winner of the May 14 special election will fill the seat through the end of 2019. Later this year, a primary (in June) and general election (in November) will be held to fill the seat from January 2020 through the end of 2021.
ABOUT THE VOTER GUIDE
This Voter Guide is produced by the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) to help New Yorkers make informed choices at the polls. The CFB creates an online Guide for every city election. This Guide lists all the candidates who were expected to be on the ballot at the time of posting and will be updated if the ballot changes.
The profiles and photos in this Guide were submitted to the CFB by the candidates, all of whom have affirmed that the information provided is true to the best of their knowledge. The views expressed in the candidate statements do not represent those of the CFB.
This badge will appear if a candidate is participating in the NYC Campaign Finance Program.
