WABC-TV Will Host Second Official Debate between Eric Adams and Curtis Sliwa

WABC-TV will host the second official mayoral debate of New York City's 2021 general election tonight. The in-person debate will air from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. from the WABC studios at 7 Lincoln Square. WABC-TV is co-hosting with The League of Women Voters of NYC, Univision 41 Nueva York, Hispanic Federation, and NAACP NYS Conference.

Debate Participants and Audio Descriptions:

The following audio descriptions of the candidates, studio, and moderators are intended to provide greater access to the debates for voters who are blind or have low vision.

Candidates:

Eric Adams: "I am a bald black man, in my early 60's with brown eyes. I am wearing a charcoal-colored suit, a gray tie and a light gray shirt with a white collar."

Curtis Sliwa: "I am in my late sixties and about 6 feet tall with thinning brown hair but am known for wearing my signature Guardian Angels red beret."

Moderator and Panelists:

Bill Ritter, moderator, WABC-TV News Anchor: “I am 6 feet tall, 71 years old, and until a few years ago I had brown hair that has, with the birth of my third child, quickly turned gray. I have been a journalist since 1972. I started working at ABC in 1992. I’ve moderated WABC’s mayoral debates since 2001.”

Dave Evans, panelist, WABC-TV Political Reporter: “I am a white male, in my early 60’s, with short grey hair and blue eyes. I am wearing horn-rimmed glasses."

Mariela Salgado, panelist, Univision 41 News Anchor: "I am a Hispanic woman originally from Chile. I am wearing a black long sleeve dress. My hair is shoulder length. I am wearing it straight behind my ears. I have more than 20 years of experience in journalism and won multiple Emmys for news coverage."

Studio: Both of the candidates will be standing behind a clear lectern. Behind them will be blue lit walls and monitors with red, white, and blue graphics. The moderator and panelists will be seated at desks facing the candidates.

There will not be media access to the debate. Pool photography will be provided by Reuters. The video feed will be available via the NY Switch (NY Pool 1) for clips and reporting purposes only. Except for Univision 41 and 1010 WINS, livestreams of the debate are not permitted. All clips and photos should include the courtesy "WABC-TV and the New York City Campaign Finance Board."

Criteria:
Candidates appearing in this debate have met nonpartisan, objective, and nondiscriminatory criteria in the city's Campaign Finance Act. Candidates participating in the matching funds program must participate in this debate if they meet the eligibility thresholds.

Both candidates participating in this debate have qualified for and received public matching funds for the general election totaling $6,907,617.
